Outboard Problems We Fix
Most outboard trouble starts small: a weak telltale stream, a little hesitation at mid-throttle, or an engine that takes a few more cranks than it used to. Catching those signs early is cheaper than waiting for a breakdown in the middle of the lake. We troubleshoot and repair:
- No-start and hard-start conditions
- Rough idle, stalling and surging
- Loss of power or won't plane
- Overheating and weak telltale stream
- Water pump and impeller replacement
- Carburetor cleaning and rebuilds
- Fuel injection and fuel pump issues
- Ignition, spark plugs and coils
- Lower unit gear oil and seal leaks
- Power trim and tilt problems
- Starter, solenoid and charging issues
- Warning horns and fault codes
Two-Stroke, Four-Stroke and Most Major Brands
We work on outboards from the major manufacturers, including Mercury, Yamaha, Suzuki, Honda, Evinrude, Johnson and Tohatsu. Whether you run a small tiller motor on a jon boat, a single outboard on a bass boat or center console, or twin engines on a bay boat, we bring the same careful, step-by-step diagnostic approach.
Why Mobile Outboard Repair Makes Sense
Hauling a boat to a shop means hitching up, waiting weeks in a service queue and losing prime lake days. With mobile service, we come to your home, storage lot, slip or dock in Springtown, Azle, Lake Worth, Eagle Mountain Lake, Saginaw and West Fort Worth. You skip the tow, and many repairs are finished the same visit.
Keep Your Outboard Healthy Between Visits
- Watch the telltale (pee hole) stream every time you start up. A weak or missing stream means stop and call.
- Use fresh, stabilized fuel. Ethanol-blended fuel that sits for months is one of the most common causes of no-start problems we see.
- Flush with fresh water after each trip if your engine has a flush port.
- Change lower unit gear oil at least once a year. Milky oil means water is getting in and the seals need attention.

Outboard Motor Repair FAQ
How often should I replace my outboard's water pump impeller?
Most manufacturers recommend inspecting or replacing the impeller every one to three years, depending on hours and conditions. Lakes with sandy or muddy shallows wear impellers faster. If your telltale stream gets weak or the engine runs hot, have the impeller checked right away.
Why won't my outboard start after sitting all winter?
The most common causes are stale or ethanol-damaged fuel, a gummed-up carburetor or fuel injectors, a weak battery, or a clogged fuel filter. We test each system and get you running without guesswork.
Can you repair my outboard on the water?
In many cases, yes. We regularly work on boats in slips, at private docks and on lifts. Some jobs, like major lower unit work, may be easier on the trailer, and we will tell you up front.
