How We Diagnose Boat Problems
Modern marine engines have computers, sensors and fault codes, while older motors rely on carburetors, points and mechanical systems. We combine diagnostic tools with hands-on testing of fuel, spark, compression and cooling to pinpoint the cause, then explain what we found in plain English before any work is done.
Symptoms Worth a Diagnostic Visit
- Engine cranks but won't start
- Warning horn or check engine light
- Engine goes into limp or guardian mode
- Bogging or hesitation on acceleration
- Runs fine at idle but dies under load
- Excessive smoke or fuel smell
- Poor fuel economy
- Knocking, ticking or unusual noises
Fuel System Repair
Fuel problems are one of the most common reasons boats won't run, and ethanol-blended gasoline makes them worse. Ethanol attracts moisture, and fuel left sitting can separate and leave gum and varnish behind. We repair and replace:
- Clogged fuel filters and water separators
- Gummed carburetors
- Dirty or failing fuel injectors
- Fuel pumps and vapor separator tanks
- Primer bulbs, fuel lines and fittings
- Anti-siphon valves and tank vents

Diagnostics & Fuel System Repair FAQ
Do you charge for diagnostics?
Call us at 817-236-0048 to discuss your boat and current pricing. We'll always explain what we found and what it will take to fix before doing the repair.
Is ethanol fuel bad for my boat?
Ethanol-blended fuel is common and most modern engines can run on it, but it attracts moisture and breaks down when it sits. Using fresh fuel, a fuel stabilizer and a water-separating fuel filter helps prevent problems.
My engine has a warning alarm. Is it safe to run?
Not until you know why. An alarm can mean overheating, low oil pressure or another serious issue. Shut down, check the basics like the telltale stream, and call us to diagnose it.
